In all likelihood, a creationist from the crystal meth capital of Alaska will be president of the United States in about 18 months. But until then, we can pretend that being president actually involves paying attention to things like facts and reality.

To that end, you should all look at the website Science Debate 2008. Culled from thousands of questions sent in by tens of thousands of scientists, engineers and science journalists, the website posed 14 questions about science and science policy to both Senators Obama and McCain.

Obama answered first, and now this past week McCain has answered too. If you like fantasizing that the candidates genuinely care about things other than pimping a Tina Fey look-alike to right wing wackos or competing with Wayne Brady and Bryant Gumble to win the ‘most acceptable to middle America’ contest, then you should read the candidate’s answers to questions ranging from global warming, to stem cell research, to other things Republicans think shouldn’t exist.
