VIDEO: The Gowanus Robot

Maurizio Porfiri and his students use a robot to monitor the Gowanus canal

The Gowanus canal has been on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund list since 2010 because of sewage discharge and chemical contamination. With the help of Brooklyn locals, one group of New York University researchers is using an aquatic robot to keep an eye on water quality and wildlife in the canal.
