Biological processes have fascinated artists for centuries. Yet, it wasn’t until recently that artists and scientists started collaborating to create “bioart” using living organisms and tissues in unique ways.
In this video, Scienceline takes a look at bioart through the lens of one particular project at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Here, artist Shane Boddington and biologist Sebastian Cocioba explain what creating bioart really involves and how artists experimenting in the lab can expand the realm of scientific understanding.
